ENNEAGRAM TYPE 1: THE PERFECTIONIST
Enneagram Type 1, known as The Perfectionist or The Reformer, is principled, disciplined, and driven by a strong sense of right and wrong. They strive for excellence, value integrity, and have a deep desire to improve themselves and the world around them. With high standards and a keen eye for detail, they can be self-critical and sometimes rigid, but their dedication to doing what’s right makes them inspiring leaders and dependable individuals.
TYPE 1 IN A RELATIONSHIP
Committed, practical and trustworthy.
Leading from integrity, the Type 1 will stand by the rules and thrive for quality. They often struggle to express their emotions and may find themselves suppressing their feelings versus sharing them. They have high expectations and will expect their partner to be the same. Laughter and spontaneity can help disrupt the status quo with a Type 1.
SHADOW SIDE
The inner critic can be a permanent sidekick for a Type 1, it is firing nearly 100% of the time. Enneagram 1s are harder on themselves than others and can give off standoffish energy. Although they may not be able to express their feelings, it can be evident when they are disappointed or frustrated with their partner or colleague.
GROWTH
The work for the Enneagram Type 1 is to lean into spontaneity. Be open to the unknown and find ways to express their feelings in a healthy way. Moving away from black or white thinking and adopting a “what’s possible” versus “what’s right” will help the Type 1 stretch beyond their Enneagram type and into a more integrated and fulfilled life and career.

There is no “perfect” career path for a Type 1 but they excel in environments that have structure, order and a place where they can operate with integrity. They love an employee handbook, are masters of creating SOPS, tend to be logical, incredibly discerning and always have zero unread emails in their inbox. They can struggle to delegate which can lead to burnout and must learn to embrace the occasional mistake or unchecked box.
